Color Code your SAP screens to avoid confusing production with QA and Dev
Have you ever had three sessions open at one time, one in Dev one in QA and one in production. Under the pressure of a production support fix how easy could it be to perform a transaction in the wrong system without realizing it…..scary isn’t it one mistake and you could have left your mark all over a clients production system.
To avoid this I always recommend using SAP’s feature to set a different color to each system. This allows your SAPGUI for Development to be green, your QA system blue and your production system a bright pink!!!. Follow the simple steps below ad save yourself from possible embarrassment…..(or a lawsuit !)
Set Design to Enjoy
Log into the first system you want to change. The first thing you must do is ensure that the SAPGUI design you are using supports different colors (not all of them do)
The sapgui design function is found under the customize local layout button.
Press the Design Settings button to choose the visual design
I like to use the Enjoy Theme. Then on the color settings tab make sure that the enjoy theme is also set and select a color
this will be the default color for all your SAP systems and the login pad
Apply and Save.
Now you have selected for the gui on your machine to use a theme that supports colors and you selected a default color. The next step is to select a color for each of your systems
Set Color to System
First you must log out then log back in. You should be in the enjoy theme now based on your previous step
now press the local layout button.
Then select set color to system
At this point you will get a pop up that will allow you to change the colors of the particular system you are in
Note if you do not see any color options then the theme selected in the first step does not support colors. Go back and perform that step again
Now simply log into all the systems in your environment and set a different color. I like to go with Green for Dev, Blue for QA and bright pink for Production

This is a very useful thing to do. I too have been doing it for a while now. My only problem: I hate the pink I always end up using for the production client. Why can’t we get a better choice of colors. For example I would like to have a faded red for production.
